CTMC TO HOST ONE OF MANY FREE AREA CAR SEAT INSPECTIONS

SAN MARCOS, TX – There will be several opportunities throughout the rest of May to have your child’s car seat inspected at no cost by a certified technician. Here in San Marcos, the inspection will take place under the covered driveway at the Central Texas Medical Center Women’s Center on Tuesday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The service is free, but participants are encouraged to call (512) 393-5567 ahead of time to schedule an appointment.

During the inspections, technicians check existing car seats for manufacturer recalls. They also ensure that the seat is installed correctly. If it isn’t, the person is taught how to reinstall the car seat the right way. Every car seat is also evaluated to determine if it is appropriate for the age, height and weight of the child.

“If the seat is not ‘good’ because of age, recall, or damage, or if they don’t have a seat at all or are an expecting mother, we provide the seats to them at no cost,” said Susan Youngblood, RN, Central Texas Medical Center’s Trauma Coordinator. “Of course, there is always education about car seat safety, applicable driving laws, safety recommendations, etc.”
