CTMC EMPLOYEES ARE AMONG THE MOST PRODUCTIVE AND ENGAGED WORKFORCES IN THE WORLD
SAN MARCOS, TX – Adventist Health System (AHS), which is comprised of 44 hospital campuses including Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), has received the Gallup Great Workplace Award for the third year in a row, recognizing the organization as having one of the best-performing and most productive and engaged workforces in the world. AHS was presented the award during a summit at Gallup’s main campus in Omaha, Nebraska, May 7-9, 2013.
“We are so honored to be part of this recognition. This award shows that our employees have a deep connection to the mission of our organization as well as a strong commitment to their colleagues. We are proud to be a part of the 79,000 Adventist Health System employee family that provides health and healing with skill and compassion every day,” said CTMC President and CEO Sam Huenergardt.
The Gallup Great Workplace Award is based on the most rigorous workplace research ever conducted. A panel of workplace experts evaluated the award-winning organizations. AHS is among the winners because its results demonstrate one of the most productive and engaged workforces in the world.
During the summit, Great Workplace Award winners presented the best practices they applied to their workplace and the improved business results they achieved through building an engaged workforce.
“These award-winning organizations set a new standard for workplace excellence,” said Dr. James Harter, Chief Scientist. “They have proven track records for improving lives along with performance. The management tenets they practice have proven value in both thriving and struggling economies overall.”
The hospital, which originated in 1923 as Hays County Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial Hospital, was restructured in 1960. The present facility was opened at its current Wonder World Drive location in 1983. The CTMC staff of more than 700 employees works with more than 220 active and consulting physicians to provide quality services to patients and their families.
In addition, over 200 community members and interns from area educational institutions volunteer their services to the hospital. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, CTMC was named The Best Hospital in Hays County. CTMC also added a certified Chest Pain Center to its ER capabilities in 2011, as well as a certified Stroke Center in 2013. In 2012, CTMC became the first operating room along the IH-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio to be equipped with a da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery suite.

About the Gallup Great Workplace Award
The Gallup Great Workplace Award recognizes the best-performing workforces in the world. Applicants’ results are compared across a workplace research database composed of millions of work teams in more than 100 countries. A panel of workplace experts assesses the applicants’ results to select the winners.
The award’s weight and design equal the merit of the winners’ accomplishments. To create the award, Gallup designers collaborated with R.S. Owens & Company, the company that produces many of the world’s most prestigious awards, including the Academy Award. The award consists of two components: The top design features 12 etched crystal planes, layered to convey the kinetic energy of an engaged workforce. The crystal sits atop a concave-shaped pedestal base composed of polished silver-plated legs and a satin-finish front display. The combination of these parts results in a piece that evokes the nature of engagement.
