CELEBRATE SENIOR CITIZENS DAY AT CTMC’S FREE SENIOR DAY DANCE AUG. 21

SAN MARCOS, TX – Aug. 21 is recognized as National Senior Citizens Day, and Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is encouraging a healthy celebration of activity, light refreshments and developing more interpersonal relationships by hosting the free Senior Day Dance from 2 to 4 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center, located at 501 East Hopkins Street in San Marcos.

“We are calling all seniors to come out and enjoy a fun activity, healthy refreshments and an opportunity to expand friendships,” said CTMC Administrative Director of PR/Marketing Clay DeStefano.

National Senior Citizens Day was established by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 when he called on the people of the United States to “observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

“Throughout our history, older people have achieved much for our families, our communities, and our country,” President Reagan said in Proclamation 5847. “That remains true today, and gives us ample reason this year to reserve a special day in honor of the senior citizens who mean so much to our land.”

Research shows that dancing promotes balance and strength, as well as memory and brain function. Besides the well-documented mental and physical benefits, dancing also encourages interpersonal relationships, an essential part of optimal wellness that is promoted in the CREATION Health principles.

CREATION Health is a faith-based health and wellness philosophy that was developed by Adventist Health System (AHS), CTMC’s parent company. The CREATION Health principles are based on biblical ideas that promote a balanced approach to achieving optimal health. The proven results of this lifestyle on wellness and longevity are extraordinary. For more information about CREATION Health, visit ctmc.org and click on the CREATION Health banner on the home page.

Admission to the CTMC Senior Day Dance is free, and guests will have a chance to win door prizes at the event. For more information, please call the CTMC Institute for Healthy Living at (512) 753-3818.
