CARDIAC REHABILITATION NOW AVAILABLE AT CTMC
SAN MARCOS, TX – Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for residents in Hays County. That’s why in the past few years, Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) has made significant strides in its ability to diagnose and treat cardiac patients close to home.
The hospital recently added cardiac rehabilitation to its growing list of cardiac services, which incorporates specialized cardiovascular and strength training regimens for patients with heart ailments. Individuals who have been diagnosed with heart disease, suffered a major cardiac event or undergone a heart procedure can benefit from CTMC’s cardiac rehabilitation.
“The new service line is a great addition to CTMC’s expanding cardiac services,” said CTMC Administrative Director of PR/Marketing Clay DeStefano. “Cardiac rehabilitation helps increase longevity and quality of life for patients with heart issues. As a result, patients feel better, become stronger and decrease their risk of developing future heart problems.”
DeStefano adds that cardiac rehabilitation at CTMC also focuses on CREATION Health education for heart patients, providing resources to help them live a healthier life moving forward. Because heart problems often affect a person’s mental state, the program also provides counseling to patients for emotional wellbeing.
CTMC was recognized as a Certified Chest Pain Center in 2011 and received advanced certification as a Primary Stroke Center earlier this year. The hospital also provides stroke patients with 24-7 access to neurologists via telemedicine.
Additionally, CTMC received the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association’s Mission: Lifeline Bronze Quality Achievement Recognition in 2012 for using evidence-based guidelines to provide the best possible care to patients. In 2013, the American Heart Association recognized CTMC as a Fit Friendly Worksite for its dedication to employee wellness.

About CTMC
The hospital, which originated in 1923 as Hays County Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial Hospital, was restructured in 1960. The present facility was opened at its current Wonder World Drive location in 1983. The CTMC staff of more than 700 employees works with more than 220 active and consulting physicians to provide quality services to patients and their families.
